Published rubric versions are immutable — a change supersedes a version, it never rewrites one. This is the record of what changed, why, and which grades would move as a result.

How this rubric is versioned

The rubric follows Semantic Versioning 2.0.0. The compatibility contract it owes its readers is: would the same document still get the same letter? So a backwards-compatible change is one that cannot make an existing document's grade worse.

  • MAJOR — a document's grade could go down, or a rung's definition changes. Any change to a gate's meaning or ordering lands here.
  • MINOR — a document's grade could go up but never down — additive changes such as a new A+ marker.
  • PATCH — no grade can change at all. Wording, examples, clarifications.

From 1.0.0 onward, every published version stays available at its own permanent address, unchanged. A change supersedes a version; it never rewrites one. A document graded under an earlier version keeps that grade under that version — if a newer rubric would grade it differently, that is a different statement, not a correction.

Versions below 1.0.0 are initial development under semantic versioning: the scale is not stable and may change at any time. Grades issued under a pre-release rubric are not citable as a settled assessment.
